Brazilian Journal of Oral and Systemic Health (BJOSH)

BJOSH is a scientific journal that publishes original manuscripts contributing to the advancement of knowledge at the interface between Dentistry and Systemic Health. Accepted submissions include original articles, scientific notes, review articles, opinion pieces, and methodological articles. Only unpublished manuscripts not submitted elsewhere are considered. Papers presented at events are accepted, provided this information is disclosed by the authors.​


Accepted Manuscript Categories

  • Original Articles: Comprehensive studies presenting detailed, unpublished results, up to 25 pages including figures, tables, and references.​

  • Scientific Notes: Short manuscripts (2–4 pages) with concise and relevant results. Must include title, abstract, keywords (in Portuguese and English), and continuous text without subdivisions.​

  • Review Articles: Address current and relevant topics at the Dentistry-Systemic Health interface. May be submitted spontaneously or by editorial invitation.​

  • Opinion Articles: Academic discussions on theoretical, methodological, or emerging issues, up to 3,000 words, based on scientific literature. BJOSH may publish responses or counterpoints from other authors.​

  • Methodological Articles: Presentation of new methods or methodological improvements relevant to research in Dentistry and Systemic Health.​

  • Thematic Sections: Organized by the editorial board or guest researchers on specific topics.​


Manuscript Preparation Guidelines

First Page

  • Title in Portuguese (bold) and English (italic).​

  • Full names of all authors (maximum of 8), institutional affiliations (institution, unit, department, city, state, and country – the latter in English), emails, and ORCID IDs.​

  • Corresponding author identified with an asterisk (*).​

Second Page

  • Structured abstract (in English and Portuguese), 250–300 words, with sections: Objective, Methods, Results, Conclusion.​Periódicos Unicamp

  • Keywords: Up to six descriptors in alphabetical order, separated by commas, representing the article's content. Keywords should be based on DECS or MeSH (in English and Portuguese).​

Main Text (from the third page)

  • Sections: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, Acknowledgments (optional), Data Availability Statement, and References.​

  • Font: Times New Roman, size 12, 1.5 spacing.​

Figures and Tables

  • Numbered consecutively (Figure 1, Table 1, etc.).​

  • Inserted within the text upon first submission; in the final version, placed at the end of the manuscript.​

  • Minimum resolution: 300 DPI.​

  • Tables should have lines in the header and top and bottom borders.​

  • Digital publication allows the use of color figures.​

Data Availability Statement

Mandatory for manuscripts with research data. Should be included after acknowledgments. Examples:​

  • “The data analyzed in this study are available at [REPOSITORY], accessible at [DOI/URL].”​

  • “The data used are not publicly available.”​

  • “All relevant data are included within the article.”​

References

  • Numbered according to the order of citation in the text (Vancouver style).​

Funding Statement

Should be included in the Acknowledgments, specifying the funding agency (in the original language), process number, and other sponsors.​


Publication Ethics

Animal Studies

All animal experiments must adhere to the ARRIVE guidelines and comply with the regulations of the respective country. Clearly indicate in the manuscript that these guidelines were followed and include the checklist. The sex of the animals must be stated, along with any influence (or association) of sex on study results, as well as genotype, strain, source, number of backcrosses, and age of the animals studied.​

Human Studies

For articles involving human participants, authors must ensure that the research was conducted in accordance with the World Medical Association's Declaration of Helsinki. Include a statement in the manuscript confirming that informed consent was obtained. Participants' privacy rights must always be respected.​

The manuscript should comply with the recommendations of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) and aim to include representative human populations (sex, age, ethnicity). Include data such as age (mean and range), height (m), weight (kg), sex (male/female, with numbers and percentages), selection criteria, health conditions, etc. Complex information should preferably be presented in tables for clarity.​

Informed Consent and Patient Details

Approval from the institution's Research Ethics Committee and informed consent must be documented. Appropriate consents, permissions, and releases must be obtained when authors wish to include case details, personal information, or images of patients or other individuals. Always indicate that consent was obtained and submit the Consent Form or Ethics Committee approval letter.​

Images

Images must be non-identifiable and anonymized. A signed authorization for publication must be obtained from the patient, legal representative, or family member and submitted with the manuscript or case report.​


Publication Fee

  • No submission fee is charged.​

  • A publication fee of R$ 245.00 for Brazilian authors or US$ 50.00 for authors of other nationalities is applicable.​


Original Articles

  • Reproduction of article content, in whole or in part, is permitted provided the source is cited.​

  • Articles with plagiarism will be rejected, and the offending author will lose the right to publish in this journal.​

  • Names and addresses provided in this journal will be used exclusively for the services offered by this publication and will not be made available for other purposes or to third parties.​

  • Upon submission, authors transfer the copyright of their articles to BJOSH.​

  • If an author wishes to withdraw the submission, they have the right to request BJOSH not to publish the article.​

  • However, this request must be made at least two months before the release of the edition in which the article would be published.​

  • For articles involving human subjects, it is mandatory to submit the Ethics Committee approval letter, including the CAAE number within the text.​
